Observance in Abuja:
In Abuja, participants assembled at the National Mosque to offer Juma’at prayers, followed by a peaceful procession expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people. Many of the participants carried banners and placards with pro-Palestinian messages, chanting slogans in support of Palestine.
Security personnel were stationed around the mosque area to ensure safety, though the gathering concluded without incident.
Background of International Quds Day:
International Quds Day is observed on the last Friday of the Islamic month of Ramadan, an event established in 1979 by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the late leader of Iran, to express global solidarity with Palestine. The event, first marked in Iran, has been widely observed by members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, for over four decades. Activities often include lectures, awareness campaigns, and public processions to raise awareness about the Palestinian struggle.
