Dangote Activates Olokola Deep Seaport Project in Ogun State

Dangote Industries Limited has commenced preliminary engagement and survey activities for the proposed Olokola Deep Seaport project, a major infrastructure initiative expected to boost maritime trade and industrial growth in Nigeria.

The multi-billion-dollar project forms part of the company’s broader Vision 2030 expansion strategy aimed at strengthening logistics, exports, and industrialisation.

Project Location

The proposed deep seaport and industrial enclave will occupy more than 10,000 hectares within the Olokola Free Trade Zone located in Ogun State and extending into Ondo State along the Atlantic coastline.

The development covers areas within Ogun Waterside Local Government Area and stretches eastward toward Ilaje Local Government Area.

Communities Welcome Project

Host communities reportedly welcomed the project during visits by company representatives and consultants.

Traditional rulers and community leaders from Ode-Omi, Araromi Seaside Kingdom, and Igbokoda expressed optimism about the economic opportunities expected from the project and pledged their support.

They also praised the industrial vision of Aliko Dangote.

Strategic Export and Logistics Hub

According to the company, the seaport is designed to serve as a major logistics and export hub for industrial activities.

Leading the delegation to the host communities, Jamil Abubakar said the project would significantly transform the region economically and strengthen Africa’s maritime trade capacity.

He explained that the port would support the export of:

  • Fertiliser
  • Petrochemicals
  • Refined petroleum products
  • Future Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) exports

The port is also expected to facilitate the importation of heavy industrial equipment.

Economic Impact

Abubakar described the Olokola Port project as a strategic step toward unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential and reducing pressure on existing ports.

“The Olokola Port project is a major step in unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential, strengthening trade, reducing pressure on existing ports and supporting industrial growth,” he said.

He added that the project would create jobs, stimulate business activities, and promote long-term development across Ogun and Ondo States.

Part of Dangote’s Vision 2030

The project aligns with Dangote Industries’ ambition to expand into maritime infrastructure and export-led industrialisation.

The company aims to become a $100 billion annual revenue enterprise and rank among the world’s top 100 companies within the next five years.

Environmental consultants, estate valuers, and land surveyors accompanied the delegation during the preliminary assessment visits as planning activities continue for the ambitious seaport development.
