The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has issued a strong warning to residents against aiding, harboring, or providing any form of logistical support to Boko Haram insurgents.

The warning follows a recent airstrike carried out by the Operation Hadin Kai, specifically by its Air Component, in the Jilli general area of Gubio Local Government Area on April 11, 2026.

Jilli Market Allegedly Used by Insurgents

According to a statement released by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum described the Jilli market as a location allegedly used by insurgents and their suppliers for logistical activities.

Jilli is a border community situated between Gubio Local Government Area and Geidam Local Government Area.

Governor Zulum explained that both Jilli and Gazabure markets had been officially closed by the Borno State Government five years ago due to security concerns.

“I have been properly briefed on the airstrike carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai on Jilli market, a border town between Borno and Yobe states. Let me state categorically that the Borno State Government closed Jilli and Gazabure markets five years ago,” the governor said.

Coordination With Security Agencies

The governor also noted that the state government remains in close consultation with the Yobe State government and military authorities regarding security developments in the area.

He emphasized that before any community is resettled or markets are reopened in insurgency-affected areas, the government carefully consults with the military and other security agencies.

Call for Vigilance

Governor Zulum reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens and restoring lasting peace in the region.

He urged residents to stay vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible intelligence that could help ongoing military operations.

“Residents should remain vigilant and support security agencies with useful information that will assist in combating insurgency and restoring peace across the state,” the governor added.

The fight against insurgency in northeastern Nigeria continues as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and stabilize affected communities.
