The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a police officer captured in a viral video allegedly carrying out an extra-judicial killing of a suspect in Delta State.
The incident, which has sparked outrage across social media, involved a handcuffed man who was reportedly shot by an officer attached to the Effurun Area Command.
What Happened
In the now-viral video, the suspect—identified as Mene Ogidi—was seen seated on the ground and surrounded by armed police officers.
He repeatedly pleaded with the operatives, assuring them that he would cooperate.
“I will tell you everything,” the man was heard saying in the clip.
Despite his plea, one of the officers was seen loading his rifle before shooting the suspect at close range.

Police Confirm Arrest of Officer
Reacting to the incident, the Delta State Police Command, through its spokesperson Bright Edafe, confirmed that the officer involved has been arrested.
According to the police, the officer, identified as Nuhu Usman, acted in violation of Force Order 237 and the standard operating procedures of the police.
The police said the suspect had earlier been apprehended while allegedly attempting to transport a parcel containing a firearm.
Disciplinary Action Underway
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, has condemned the incident and ordered immediate action.
The officer has since been transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he will face the Force Disciplinary Committee.
Authorities say he will undergo disciplinary proceedings and possible prosecution.

IGP Promises Justice
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has also reacted, assuring that justice will be served.
In a statement issued by the Force spokesperson, the police reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on extra-judicial killings and abuse of authority.

The incident has once again brought attention to recurring cases of police brutality in Nigeria, including unlawful arrests, extortion, and abuse of power.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm, assuring that the matter will be handled transparently and in accordance with the law.
