FG Suspends Niger NSCDC Commandant, Orders Probe Into Deaths of Alleged Illegal Miners

The Federal Government has suspended the Niger State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, and ordered a full investigation into the reported deaths of suspected illegal miners in Minna.

The suspension was announced on Friday, September 18, 2026, by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, following reports of deaths involving suspected illegal miners arrested during enforcement operations in parts of Niger State on September 15 and 16.

The incident reportedly occurred around the M.I. Wushishi/Lukoto axis of Minna, where security operatives had been conducting operations against illegal mining activities.
