Burkina Faso has approved a major energy initiative aimed at raising the country’s electrification rate to 70 per cent by 2030 and reducing its dependence on external energy sources.
The initiative, approved by the Council of Ministers on September 10, 2026, has a total cost of 104.175 billion CFA francs, equivalent to about $168 million, based on the current CFA franc-U.S. dollar peg.
The government said the programme will focus on strengthening electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure, expanding existing networks and providing sustainable energy solutions for schools, households and health facilities.
