Tension has gripped Sokoto metropolis following the stabbing of an Islamic cleric, Malam Musa Lukwa, shortly after he led the Juma’at prayer at a mosque in the Mabera area of the city on Friday.
The cleric was reportedly attacked twice in the neck by a young man who was among the worshippers at the mosque.
Sources said the suspect, identified as Mai Barewa, was seated among the worshippers, reportedly in one of the front rows, before allegedly attacking Lukwa immediately after the prayer.
