Tinubu: ICC Ruling Clears Major Legal Hurdle for Long-Delayed Mambilla Power Project

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed an International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration tribunal ruling in favour of Nigeria, saying the decision has removed the biggest legal obstacle that had stalled the long-delayed Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project in Taraba State.

The tribunal, sitting in Paris, France, on Thursday, September 17, 2026, rejected claims brought against Nigeria by Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited over disputes connected to the development of the hydroelectric project.

The dispute involved claims running into billions of dollars. According to the Presidency, Sunrise had sought $680 million in a settlement-related claim, while a separate arbitration connected to the Mambilla project involved a claim of more than $2.7 billion in compensation and interest.
