Civil society organisation Global Rights has called on the Federal Government to ensure justice for victims of the 2020 #EndSARS protests, lamenting that six years after the Lekki Toll Gate shooting, accountability for the incident remains outstanding.
The organisation also urged the government to implement the 2024 judgment of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Court of Justice, compensate victims and their families, and protect citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful protest.
The Executive Director of Global Rights, Abiodun Baiyewu, made the demands in a statement commemorating the sixth anniversary of the protests, which were organised to demand an end to police brutality, unlawful arrests, extortion and torture.
