Saudi Arabia has executed two Bangladeshi nationals, identified in reports from Bangladesh as Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siri Akhtar, after convicting them of an alleged immoral act inside a mosque in the holy city of Mecca.
The reported circumstances of the case have drawn attention after accounts circulating in Bangladesh claimed that the act involved the husband kissing his wife’s forehead during their honeymoon.

According to these accounts, the couple were newlyweds who travelled to Mecca and that the kiss was an expression of appreciation to Allah for his bride. The reports further claimed that Saudi authorities did not accept their explanation that they were married.
