Barrister Solomon Dalung’s lengthy response does not answer the central issue. Instead, it attempts to place me, not the record of Nasir El-Rufai’s administration, on trial. That diversion may be rhetorically convenient, but it cannot rewrite Kaduna’s history or erase the painful experiences of its people.
Yes, I served as a Local Government Chairman, Political Adviser and twice as Director-General of campaigns under the former governor. I have never denied that history, nor do I need Solomon Dalung’s permission to acknowledge it.
However, serving in an administration does not amount to surrendering one’s conscience or accepting collective responsibility for every action and policy of that government. We worked under one political roof, but we did not always share identical views. Responsible public officials have established channels through which they express reservations; not every disagreement must be announced through a loudspeaker or converted into public theatre.
