A Nigerian PhD student and co-author of Built By The Ancestors, Ebuka Ukoh, has urged Nigerian leaders to draw lessons from Japan’s growing population of centenarians by investing in healthcare, education, human capital development and stronger public institutions.
Ukoh made the call in an opinion article titled “What Japan’s Milestone Centenarians Teach Nigeria About Future-Building,” in which he examined the relationship between life expectancy, effective governance and long-term national development.
Writing from New York, United States, Ukoh highlighted Japan’s record of 107,677 people aged 100 and above as of September 1, describing the milestone as a reminder of the importance of building institutions that support citizens throughout their lives.
