Health workers at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun State, have commenced a three-day warning strike following the reported stabbing of a medical laboratory scientist, Lawal Toheeb Olasunkanmi, by a patient’s relative.

The industrial action, which began at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026, involves nurses, medical laboratory scientists and other non-academic staff under the Joint Action Committee of five unions.

The unions announced the strike in a protest letter dated October 12 and addressed to the hospital’s Medical Director, describing the incident as an unacceptable act of violence against a healthcare professional performing his duties.
