The North-East Obidient Movement has thrown its weight behind the appointment of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Engr. Babachir David Lawal, as Leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the North-East.
The group also called on NDC candidates who recently opposed the appointment to withdraw their joint statement, describing it as constitutionally flawed, procedurally improper and potentially damaging to the unity of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by its Director of Mobilization, Hon. Joseph Enan Maigari, the movement argued that political parties are voluntary associations protected by Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and therefore have the right to organise their internal affairs in accordance with their constitutions.
