Presidential hopeful Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC) has announced a bold new idea to tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity — and it involves drones, Zilla Naija reports.
Speaking on Thursday night during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Sowore explained that if elected President of Nigeria in 2027, his administration would use advanced technology and real‑time surveillance to find and neutralise criminals, bandits and insurgents.
Drones at the Centre of Security Strategy
In a statement that immediately grabbed national attention, Sowore said he would make technology — particularly drones — the backbone of Nigeria’s defence policy:
“If I become the President of Nigeria tomorrow, my Minister of Defence would be a drone… that’s how much I believe in technology.”
He explained that a central control centre would track real‑time movements of terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal networks, enabling swift action without bureaucratic delays.
Real‑Time Tracking, Zero Delays
Sowore told viewers that this approach would help Nigeria better confront modern security challenges, stressing that coordinated operations backed by modern tech and intelligence are needed to make communities safe.

“We must pursue and neutralise bandits through coordinated operations, backed by modern equipment, technology, and strong intelligence,” he said.
He added that relying solely on traditional military action and leaders without accountability will not solve the crisis.
More Than Just Military Power
While drones and tech will be core to his security blueprint, Sowore also emphasised that peace and safety must be paired with social reforms, including:

✔ Social infrastructure that prevents crime at its root
He said the aim is to build a society where young people are less likely to be recruited into crime or extremism.
