Mali have pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, stunning European powerhouse Spain 82-73 in Berlin, Germany.
The victory marks only the second World Cup win in Mali’s history and their first-ever triumph over a European opponent at the tournament.
Mali entered the contest as the underdogs, ranked 18th in the FIBA Women’s World Ranking, with Spain sitting 12 places above them. But on the court, the gulf in ranking was nowhere to be seen.
