Nigeria and six other countries accounted for about 90 per cent of reported cholera cases and deaths globally in 2025, the World Health Organisation has said.
The WHO made the disclosure on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in a global health update released through its official platforms, drawing on data published in its Weekly Epidemiological Record. The underlying 2025 Cholera Annual Report was published in Volume 101, Issue 38 of the record on September 25, 2026.
The latest figures show that cholera deaths increased sharply despite fewer reported cases worldwide, raising fresh concerns about access to clean water, sanitation and timely medical treatment.
