It was gathered that the incident occurred on October 6, 2026, along the Tungan Taya-Woko axis, where Babagiwa and another officer, an Inspector of Immigration, were conducting a surveillance operation when they came under attack.
The surviving officer sustained machete injuries but managed to escape.
He is currently stable and responding to treatment, according to the Niger State Command of the NIS.
