US Forces Sink Vessel Allegedly Linked to Ecuador’s Los Choneros Drug Network

U.S. military forces have intercepted and sunk a vessel allegedly linked to Los Choneros, a violent Ecuadorian criminal organisation accused of involvement in international drug trafficking.

The operation was conducted on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in the Eastern Pacific under the direction of the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), with personnel from the Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere participating in the interdiction.

According to SOUTHCOM, intelligence gathered by U.S. authorities indicated that the vessel was being used as a floating refuelling station to support illicit maritime drug-trafficking operations.
