The government also constituted a committee of Islamic scholars, known as Ulamas, to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the incident and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Abubakar Bawa, the government described the mosque as a crime scene and said it would remain closed until further notice.
