A leader’s true worth is not measured merely by the offices he has occupied, the titles he bears, or the power he wields. It is measured by what he does with the opportunities that come with those positions and, more importantly, by how many lives are positively affected by his decisions.
Sometimes, a single intervention reveals a great deal about a person’s philosophy of leadership. In the case of Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, his involvement in the federal government’s prison decongestion programme in 2008 offers an illuminating example of how public responsibility can be turned into an opportunity to empower people.
His advocacy for prison decongestion and his efforts to address longstanding problems in Nigeria’s criminal justice system explain how keen Aondoakaa is on positively touching lives whenever he has an opportunity.
