The agency also said 182 cases had so far been recorded, with seven victims suffering blindness — five totally and two partially — following the suspected consumption of the locally prepared concoctions, reports The Nation.
The latest figures were contained in an update issued by NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, on Friday, September 18, 2026.
The incident has affected communities in Odigbo and Irele Local Government Areas, including New Town, Odole, Okele, Orita Odigbo, Araromi-Obu and Oniparaga. NAFDAC said the situation was particularly pronounced in Odigbo Town and Araromi-Obu.
