The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has called for a major overhaul of Nigeria’s electoral justice system, demanding that disputes arising from elections be resolved within clearly defined timelines and, preferably, before declared winners are sworn into office.

The position is contained in the communiqué issued at the end of the 22nd All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC 2026), held in Enugu from September 24 to 26, 2026 and a copy available to The Reporters on Sunday.

The communiqué was signed by Eze Anaba, President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, and Onuoha Ukeh, General Secretary of the Guild.

The editors, however, stressed that their call for timely electoral adjudication was not a challenge to judicial independence, insisting that genuine electoral irregularities must continue to receive appropriate judicial attention through a system that is transparent, predictable, impartial and timely.
