The Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has attributed the ongoing internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the actions of party members, particularly those in leadership positions, rather than external political forces.

Moro made the remarks during an interview on ARISE News on Thursday, where he addressed the persistent instability affecting the opposition party.

According to Moro, the recurring crises within the PDP and other political parties are largely self-inflicted, driven by internal disagreements and power struggles among party stakeholders.

“I believe the responsibility lies mainly with political actors,” Moro stated, adding that the turmoil seen in many political parties today is a direct result of their internal dynamics.

He emphasized that individuals holding influential positions within the party structure — including governors, lawmakers, and senior party leaders — often play major roles in fueling disputes and disagreements.

The senator noted that those entrusted with leadership responsibilities within the party should also take responsibility for resolving conflicts that threaten party unity.

He argued that party leaders must demonstrate greater commitment to dialogue, discipline, and adherence to party rules in order to restore stability.

Moro’s comments come at a time when the PDP has faced repeated internal disagreements across several states and within its national leadership.

Responding to reports suggesting that the opposition party has been divided into factions, Moro dismissed such claims.

He insisted that despite the disagreements, the party remains intact and united.

“There is only one PDP,” he said firmly.

According to him, political differences and internal debates should not be mistaken for a formal split within the party.

Moro also reflected on earlier disputes within the party, particularly the controversial convention held in Ibadan.

He explained that the convention worsened internal tensions because it proceeded despite an existing court order that prohibited it from taking place.

According to the senator, the situation was further complicated when the Court of Appeal later ruled that the convention was invalid.

The court decision effectively nullified the outcomes of the event, adding another layer of complexity to the party’s leadership struggles.

The comments by Abba Moro highlight a broader challenge facing many political parties in Nigeria — internal divisions fueled by competing interests among influential members. Analysts say that unless party leaders prioritize unity and respect for institutional processes, internal conflicts could continue to weaken political structures ahead of future elections.
