The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced a review of the Supreme Court judgment on provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, amid questions over the eligibility of some candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Supreme Court recently affirmed the validity of Sections 77 and 84 of the Electoral Act 2026, following appeals involving the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The judgment has generated discussions within political circles, particularly over candidates who moved to new political parties after failing to secure the tickets of parties they previously belonged to.
