France Shuts Nearly 400 High Schools as Students Protest Long Hours, Poor Conditions

Nearly 400 high schools across France were closed on Friday as a week-long student protest over long school hours, inadequate facilities and staff shortages continued to spread across the country.

The demonstrations, which began in the Paris region before expanding nationwide, have seen teenage students block entrances to schools and, in some locations, clash with police.

According to French officials, the protests have resulted in injuries to dozens of school staff and the detention of about 2,000 people, the majority of them minors.
