The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared an immediate strike in Delta State following the death of a civil servant, Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, after an alleged assault at the office of the state Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu.
Adeda, a 54-year-old Deputy Director, reportedly died in hospital following an altercation at the commissioner’s office. His death has sparked outrage among organised labour and prompted both the police and Delta State Government to launch investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The commissioner, however, has denied ordering anyone to assault Adeda, insisting that the deceased was the one who physically attacked him and other workers at the office.
