The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken 24 of its personnel into custody in connection with the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in Niger State.
The Corps said the decision was part of measures to ensure a transparent investigation into the incident and determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
In a statement, the NSCDC assured Nigerians that due process, transparency and accountability would guide the investigation, stressing that anyone found culpable would face appropriate internal disciplinary measures as well as the full weight of the law.
