The academic world, the people of Pella, Hong Local Government, and the entire Adamawa State have been thrown into deep mourning over the death of *Professor Emeritus Mohammed Yerima Balla*, renowned mathematician, erudite teacher, scholar and mentor per excellence.
He died in the early hours of Friday, September 19, 2026, after a brief illness. His last public health battle was in July 2026 when he was admitted at the UMTH Neuroscience and Stroke Center for partial stroke, but was cured, discharged and stable before death struck.

Professor Balla was a proud son of Pella District in Hong LGA, from the Kilba/Hoba community and the historically prominent Yerima Balla lineage – a family long associated with education, public service and community leadership. Historical accounts link the lineage to the distinguished Alhaji Albatan Yerima Balla of the Kilba royal family.
