Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed deep concern over the plight of children living in mining communities, following a viral video of a young boy involved in artisanal mining.
Atiku said he had watched the boy’s video repeatedly and was deeply troubled by what he described as a painful contrast between the child’s intelligence and the poverty that had pushed him into mining.
“A child with such intelligence, clarity and confidence should be in a classroom building his future—not struggling for survival in a community surrounded by gold but buried in poverty,” Atiku said.
