Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has imposed a 12-hour dusk-to-dawn curfew in Minna following protests and rising tension over the deaths of 37 artisanal miners in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The curfew, which takes effect Friday, runs from 6pm to 6am daily and is aimed at preventing further violence and attacks on public and private property.

Governor Bago announced the measure while receiving the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who visited the state to condole with the government and families of the deceased miners.
