The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has increased the number of people being monitored following Nigeria’s confirmed Ebola case to 53 as health authorities intensify efforts to prevent further transmission of the disease.
The NCDC Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, disclosed this during a press briefing on Sunday, explaining that 44 of the identified primary contacts were linked to the health facility where the patient received treatment.
The remaining nine contacts include three members of the patient’s household and individuals who attended to her at an emergency room she visited before arriving at the facility where the infection was confirmed.
