The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is now in control of the 21 Local Government structures and 226 wards in the state following the mass defection of PDP local government chairmen, councillors and development area administrators to the APC.
In what political watchers have described as a well-planned set-up, the chairmen and councillors had earlier rode on the crest of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win local elections organized by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) in mid-2026.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who sponsored and organized the local government elections under the PDP platform, has now defected to the APC – and the entire grassroots structure has followed him.
